Welcome back to the Jeff Adams Show. So you've all heard of Santa Claus, jolly old Saint Nick, the guy who's been rocking that red suit since forever. But did you know he was a real dude, A bishop, no less, Bishop Nicholas of Myra, fourth century Asia Minor. That's right, Saint Nick was the original nice list keeper. Now the guy wasn't sliding down chimneys or dodging reindeer poop. No, he was out there making things happen, giving to the poor, championing kids and get this, promoting reconciliation between Christians. That's right. He was like the Doctor Phil of the early Church without the TV crew. But then comes the plot twist. Flash forward to the Middle Ages and some Italians in Bari pulled off what might have been. History's first religious heist. They stole his remains, built a cathedral in his honor, and being bada boom. It becomes the Switzerland of Christianity, a neutral ground for Catholics in Eastern Orthodox to hang out under the same roof. Imagine this cathedral hosting like a holy mixer, Father Dimitri meet Father Giovanni, care for some non denominational punch, and folks didn't stop there. Fast forward to modern times, Bari becomes Reconciliation Central. Mateo Calisi a Catholic, and Giovanni Tritino, an evangelical pastor. Rick Warren decide, hey, let's bridge this divide. They start a movement so big it makes its way to Buenos Aires. You know who was there, Prgolio. That's right, Pope Francis before he became the Pope of hugs and progressive memes. This guy went from blessing local pastors to sending video shout outs to Kenneth Copeland. That's like this spiritual equivalent of Taylor Swift collabing with Metallica. But here's the real kicker. This isn't just about Catholics and Protestants, the movements bringing in Orthodox Christians, Messianic Jews, everyone's at the table, and the dream to unite Christians world by twenty thirty three. I mean, it's ambitious, but if Nick could unite his town in the three hundreds, why not us. Now? So this Christmas, let's give a little nod to old Saint Nicholas, not just for the gifts and holiday cheer, but for inspiring a movement that's still shaking things up centuries later.
