About this episode

I Spent 35 Years Making Shows — Now I Can't Stop Seeing Church as One Honest faith, church hurt, and feeling disconnected from the modern church — that's what this one's about. I spent 35 years in the entertainment industry (record labels, radio, TV, live streaming, podcasting), and somewhere along the way it wrecked how I experience church. Last year I traveled with a worship artist to church after church, and I couldn't turn my brain off: the eight-camera shoots, the click tracks, the light shows, the same service run seven times in a day. I started watching the production instead of worshipping. In this episode I get honest about why the modern church became a struggle for me, the tiny off-the-beaten-path church where I actually found God again, and the thing I still can't shake — that after all of it, I've never found my community. This isn't a church-bashing video. There's no right or wrong way to worship. It's one guy, wired a certain way, telling the truth about faith, doubt, and looking for real community at 53. If you've felt disconnected in church, felt more exhausted leaving than you did walking in, or you're single or divorced and the "family unit" church culture never had a seat for you — you're not alone. That's what this channel is now: honest faith, church culture, entertainment, and the occasional dive into the weird stuff. Welcome back to  The Jeff Adams Show. #FaithJourney #ChurchCulture #TheJeffAdamsShow

Dan by Ron. I've spent over thirty five years in the entertainment industry, from running record labels, running radio programs, being involved in TV programs, you name it, live streaming, podcasting, I've done it, and there's a lot of stuff over the years now that's made it very difficult for me to really engage and watch things without over analyzing things. So I want to tell you about a trip. I think it happened last year. I was traveling with an artist that I was working with, and we were traveling to a bunch of churches. But I realized and started analyzing things that this is a production, this is a show. Join me for this story what I think the modern day church struggles with at this very hour. Have you felt like you've been deceived? I shouldn't say deceived, more like I need to really express how I'm feeling. I wouldn't say necessarily deceives. But I've been going through the motions. I for years was out of the church. I was raising the church, and when I'm stating with everything that I'm talking about today here on the Jeff Adams Show, it's stuff I've went through and I'm not bashing the church. There's no right way or wrong way. People do church, they weigh, they're comfortable of worshiping God. But for me, it's been a struggle, a deep struggle, and I think it really comes down to. What do I do how I'm wired. Yeah. So last year I was traveling with this artist going to a lot of churches and attending theirs Sunday morning services. As this artist was leading worship, was invited in and I met a lot of cool people. I met churches at and pressed my socks off. I met churches that were just unbelievable. I was like, Wow, this is powerful. But the key point that something that has turned me off over the years. Well, I would say for me, it's hard because these bigger churches, these modern day churches are more of like a production. And I'm not going to bash and go into it and say there's no right or wrong. Like I said, this is just you know, me visually expressing something that I go through that there's are big Hollywood productions. Some of these churches have you know, eight cameramen, the sound systems unbelievable, a light show that was impeccable, and a show runner, a producer running the whole service, and there are some of these churches do it the same service seven times, eight times. A day. You know, it's crazy, it's unbelievable. So I say that that I have been disenfranchised with church because I would start over analyzing. I start paying attention to all the things that I shouldn't be paying attention to, Like that guy. They were off beat there, the band, the worship be they someone was off the click track, someone sang out a key or you know, they didn't switch that enough. Hey didn't put the scriptures on the screen fast enough. All the pastor was delayed there. And I started seeing that too because I set through two or three different services the same service. They were going through the same service, and I saw a lot of those things. I was like, and it drove me absolutely battye And that's just me as well. And I think that's been my. Problem with church over the years, is because you know, I'm wired that way to you know, do this, do communication, storytelling, like I said before, So it was always hard. But I will say that there is good in church, and that's not a bad thing. But I've struggled with the balance of all of it. I've been to places where I think when I started going back to church. I started going back to church. I think it was twenty eighteen. I went through a really rough patch and I found this church, and it was so off the beaten path, and it was so not the bells and whistles, the light shows, that laser light shows, the fog machines, the you know, the the awesome band. Now, granted, there's there's great things about that. I went to church and they were playing an acoustic guitar. That was it. And it was an older demographic the time. I was probably my early forties, and literally I actually pressed in and found God in worshiped because I wasn't worried about the smoke screens, I wasn't worried about the laser lights, and it was an amazing thing. But things still getting away. I moved away from that church and then I just fell back and the routine didn't want anything to do with church. Struggling with some things in my life and quite frankly, oh gracious, I had to fix the computer there, and just going through some things in my life, and so in twenty twenty two I came back. I was working for a big YouTuber out in Texas, some things happened in my life. I came back. I found to church and the people were amazing, and I went back to my roots. It was a very charismatic church, beautiful people, and God did some great things in my life. And they don't have the bells and whistles, they don't have the smoke screens. They don't care. They use m P three's for their worship and they sing along with these tracks. It's beautiful. So I get to all these points where I'm at now with this channel and coming back bringing back this element of the Jeff Adams Show is my expression where this channel's gonna go. I'm gonna deep dive into things like this, topics like this, church topics like this, because i know I'm not the only one that thinks this way church topics. You know, in the past, I was involved with politics and things that nature. But I'm really going to dive into the really church path religious content for you guys, and entertainment as well. I'm gonna I'm gonna morph it. You'll see a lot of things like this this one on one, or you'll might see a podcast where I'm conversating with it a few different people but that's what you can expect from this channel moving forward. And I appreciate you if you took the time to watch this, because it's going to take a while to get this channel back and working the way it should be working. So I say all that because I don't know. I am so distraught. I know church is important, I know it changes people's lives, but I'm so not there right now. I'm just not there. My relationship with God is good, it can be better, but I just don't feel like I've ever found my spot in the modern day church. I just haven't. I always felt I had this shepherd called in my life, and always felt I had that. And then I said, well, you know, well apply that in business, and there's some shepherding that can be done if you have a business. But I don't have a bunch of employees. I have two partners. That's that's pretty much it in the business. We don't have any employees, So shepherding's not in the equation. But I know there's something off, and I know that that is not a perfect church. There's no perfect church anywhere, you know, and and I do know that. So if people in the common go, oh, you just got to pick a place, and I understand that. But I'm in a difficult place in life. I won't say difficult, I'll just say a weird place in life. I'm going to be fifty four in October. The recording of this is twenty twenty six, and yeah, it's just weird. I'm single, divorced, kids older, just at a different place trying to find this rhythm of community that can understand that that. You know, I don't have my family together. My kids are all grown up. They're not with me by myself, and I think a lot of people struggle with that being by themselves. There's nothing wrong with that, and in fact, it's sometimes a blessing because you don't have to deal with a whole lot, and when you want to lay down, you can lay down, and then people go, well, you're not gonna watch this movie with me? What are you crazy? There's a lot of that you don't have to worry about anymore. But there's a lot of that that I. Miss as well. And I don't think a person, or you know, a woman or a new relationship. Will fill that void. I only know that God can initially fill that void. But God is present in my life, but they still this this thing about community. I love community, but yet when I try to find a community within the body of Christ, I'm kind of like, ah, good people, but the problem always reflects back to me. And I'm trying to figure out where I'm at in life why that keeps reoccurring? Like how come I just can't commit The last church, I went through membership class a whole nine, and I'm just like, but I was going to. Church and I felt more exhausted. When I got out of church, then refreshed, and I was like, what's going on here? So people most time blame churches. They go, ah, I say, but no, I'm I've learned of all the work I've done in my life, You've got to look at yourself and if you're struggling like me, like to find a church, community, or just you're just kind of like blah, I don't want to deal with it. You're not alone. You're not alone. That's why I'm doing this video on the Jeff Adams Show. I'm gonna do topics like this. I'm gonna talk about topics. I'm gonna have people that I interview going through life and doing great things with their gifts, their talents, talk about some entertainment stuff. So that's what you can get on this channel, but it's gonna be more focused on religious content. Wait, I mean heck, and we're gonna talk about UFOs, Bigfoot, Paranora stuff. I mean, that's you know, it's not new topics, but it's been going around the interwebs and I've talked about that many many years. In fact, if you go on this channel you get backlog some old Jeff Adams shows back in twenty thirteen fourteen, when I was doing this show every single day Monday through Friday. You'll find some of that content. So not jumping on the band where I can per se, but people are talking about this stuff, and we're going to talk about you know, a lot of spiritual content and reality. You know, sometimes we can get in the clouds with you know, being with the Lord. But I'm going to bring the two together. I'm gonna bring reality, I'm gonna bring balance. I'm going to try to bring balance to this whole thing. And I think that's where I'm at. I need to find balance with everything, and the only way you can find balance is a personal relationship with Jesus, Right but sometimes life. You know, Hey, I like entertainment so much. I like these shows, but I shouldn't be watching these shows. Oh wait a minute, I like. This type of music. I gotta you know, the battle. For your soul and then you dive into you know, you know, looking behind me, there's some double wards. I was in the Christian music industry and the battle with that the stuff that you gravitate towards too that you realize that some of the people that are doing the music are no different than the people that in the world. So where's the balance. Everybody's got their problems, everybody's got their issues, and I think that's where I'm at with this church talk. Not to say I'm never going to go back to church. I probably will because it's so important. I watch a lot of things online, but I miss I know there's something out there, or maybe it's just like maybe if I'm seeing somebody, it'd be great to go to church with somebody. It's just weird. And I want to encourage you this. If you're in. The body of Christ and you're in a community and you see older people or you see single people, young people that are just not connecting, reach out to them. There's a whole ministry for that, obviously, and it's so untapped because the bigger picture most church culture talks about is the family unit, and modern day America, there's a lot of people that are separated from that. It's not reality for them. So think about that church. But the body has many parts. And I know this will soon pass and I will be okay. But think about that as the holidays are going to be approaching. Man, it is August, and it's unbelievable that I can't even think that the holidays are right around the corner. But they'll be here sooner than the later. And all I can say is if there's single people, divorce people, be kind to them, be gentle, and when they express something that's going on in their life, listen. I mean, at the end of the day, that's all they really want. They want to be heard, they want to be accepted. So maybe. Invite them over Thanksgiving dinner, or invite them over for Christmas Eve. If you never know, you never know what that person's going through. For me, on the other hand, I've had so many people have reached out to me over the years. But part of the process, so if people that know me, and people are like, well, I invited him, he just didn't come. You're absolutely right. I chose to be alone on the holidays. It was just for me a lot easier to process what I was feeling, and a lot of it was just loss and grief and time. Maybe I will enjoy the holidays again, but I know I've rambled enough. But I'm glad to be bringing this back the Jeff Adams Show. It's been a long time and I'm looking forward to get back in the groove of things. I'm going to try to do one of these once a week, and then if they start taking off and something starts clicking and working, i might double down on it and do two. But this talking head thing, I will do a lot of this because a lot of people not available to do podcasts. But there's gonna be podcast elements to this. It's gonna be a lot of fun. Thank you so much, and I'm glad to be back in the saddle doing what I love. It may not be talk radio because I'm not on the radio right now, but it is doing something I'm designed to do until next time. See you real soon. Look when Jeff Is by the Prime Rips fry
