About this episode

Can ChatGPT edit your videos—and how much should creators trust the platforms they depend on? On The Jeff Adams Show, I share my experience with ChatGPT video editing in CapCut Desktop and discuss German in Venice (GIV), his reported YouTube strike, and the uncertainty facing content creators. First, I explain what happened when I let AI take control of my computer to turn an existing episode into social media clips. The results surprised me. But when I handed it a more complicated Hollywood Studios vlog, the AI editing workflow struggled—and I stepped back in. It’s an honest look at CapCut video editing, AI tools, and why human creativity and experience still matter. Then, I react to German in Venice’s account of a YouTube community guidelines strike involving an older Oktoberfest video. His experience raises questions about platform dependence, making money on YouTube, and building a creative career on something you don’t control. From new technology to the realities of creating online, this episode explores why I’m excited about AI while staying grounded in what people bring to the process. Follow The Jeff Adams Show for more conversations about creativity, technology, and life. If this episode resonates with you, share it with a fellow creator.

Pedro, we on? We got to go, man. All right. And Ron, welcome back to the Jeff Adams show. I'm going to get right into it today. Oh my gosh. The world, the internet, how everything changed in the course of I, back in Well, when I had it at America Online the first time, 1996, the internet, we were all fascinated by it. The dial-up speeds, you had to like dial yourself in and get on the internet. And sometimes it was so busy, America Online would be busy. And you just wanted to get online to check your mail to hear you got mail. And lo and behold, many, many decades later, man, it seems like the 90s was a very long time ago, which it was. It's crazy, 96, yeah, decades ago. Seems like yesterday. What does the time go? Everything's advanced. It's unbelievable. I spent a lifetime in creation, media, and the music industry, always creating. So I always was around technologies or things that would help me assist people to do things and create music. You know, back in the day, being a hip hopper, we had an electronic device called an SP-1200 or MPC-60, or I had an Ensoniq X where I'd make my beats, use synthesizers. So that changed the world of music. And now with the world of AI, it's gotten even crazier. But I'm not here to talk about music. I'm here to talk about the mind-blowing experience I just experienced. found out and just did a few days ago. In fact, the last program I did here on The Jeff Adams Show, I did some shorts off of the long form that I did here on The Jeff Adams Show. Most people know of ChatGPT. It was, you know, most people, that's the common AI programs people go to, ChatGPT, ChatGPT. And I was on cloud for a while until... I found out that ChatGPT can edit your videos, and I was like, what? I knew Claude. I knew Claude could do it, but I don't run Premiere. Yes, I use CapCut Desktop. Very primitive, I know, but it's very easy when you're doing social clips. It's not like I'm cutting up movies or anything like that. It's just very simple for what I do, vlogs, things like this. I can get in and out really fast. So a lot of the cloud integration with, you know, CapCut, it just didn't work. Or it just, it couldn't. Until I found that ChatGPD, gosh darn it, I could give it control of my desktop. And this is where it's scary. I took something that I already edited, this last program I did, And I just asked it, I said, hey, I need you to go in and cut this up and I need to optimize it for social media. I need it for shorts, Instagram, and TikTok. And I need you to optimize the edit towards that. And literally within seconds, prompted it, set it, and it took control of my computer. I sat there and watched Chachi PT edit my video. It was mind-blowing. I was like, what in the world? And probably within 10, 15 minutes, I jumped in the shower. I got back out. It was done. Completed task. Now, before you get too excited and go, well, I'm going to hire, I'm going to fire my editor. I'm going to fire him right now. Well, don't just do that just yet because as things get better and better and with technology, there's sometimes some hurdles that you have to do. And this is why I'm not really scared about this stuff. People get scared like, oh, we're being replaced. Granted, I think in time we will be replaced in a lot of jobs that are just kind of mundane. But I'm not scared about this. So it was Monday night. I discovered this on Monday morning, this past Monday morning. And after work, I went out to shoot my vlog at Hollywood studios. I got back around 11 o'clock. He said, you know what? This is a lot of footage and I'm just going to see a chat. GPT can edit this footage. And there was probably 27 clips that I had and I didn't shoot in a certain order. So I didn't do an intro to my vlog until like in the middle of what I was already shooting. Cause I was shooting a lot of B roll first, whatever. I'm explaining this because it's important what I'm about to say with this ChatGPT control editor into CapCut. I asked it to do certain things. It just could not figure out because I saw, let me rewind. I saw one guy, he talked about it. He goes, he had a pretty difficult task of a bunch of different files and ChatGPT sorted through those things and edited the video for him. And it took a while. I didn't have a whole, a lot of time to edit this. I was like, I'm thinking this thing is thinking really hard. And it kept asking me a lot of questions about the clips. And I'm like, okay, I already know about these clips. And maybe on my, my end, it was an error on my end because I didn't prompt it properly. Maybe that's just it. When you thoroughly think through your prompt, it will help chat to PT instead of asking a bunch of questions. Cause I just said, Hey, um, This is the vlog I shot at the, uh, Hollywood studios. Uh, these, these clips are not an order, but make sure you edit it like a creative on the mend vlog, which is my other channel that I have format. Um, you know, I have a certain flow flow to it. Um, but it sat there and I was struggling and kept pulling down clips. The first thing I pulled down was like my outro. I have like an outro thing that I play. And it popped down. I'm like, oh Lord. And I said, hey, you popped down the outro. You're thinking it's an intro. And I said, no, I'm just, I'm outlining it. And I saw that it could probably do it and line things up, but it looks like it was going to take a while. But to me, it's still mind blowing. So I just said, hey, pause. I'm going to have you come up, come in and touch some things up like audio, some color grading. Later on, I'm just going to control it because I knew where everything was at. I said, I can get through this pretty fast, which I do edit pretty fast. But I was just, my mind was blown about what can be done. And we've only hit the surface of what things can be done, which it also scared me too. The fact that I can give it access to my desktop. It can literally do tasks physically, less physically, digitally, moving things around on my computer and editing, like someone else's, you know, editing remotely on my laptop. Are there scary moments to that? Yeah, I'm not going to lie. I think there's some questionable things that could happen later on. You know, security things that could happen if you give access to too many things. I mean, you can give back-end stuff to ChatGPT or any AI program if you're using Clod, but you have to give it permission and you have to toggle the switch to do so. I've heard some stories of people with their bank accounts, things happening. Someone told me that Claude bought some Amazon gift, didn't even consult something. I don't know. I don't want to blow the story, but you get what I'm saying. It's scary, but also from what I do for a living and work, I think it's great, but I think For us, don't be so scared of AI because yes, AI is very intelligent. Don't lean into it so much because this is where we're valuable. When we bring human experiences to the table, when we bring our lifelong experience of how to do these things, because AI is always learning off of us, back catalogs, just constantly learning and evolving. But if we don't bring what we bring to the table, That's just it. It's just a carbon copy. It's going to be like everything else. We bring creativity to the mix. So I sell that is, Hey, try that thing out. If you're editing videos or whatever, just try it out. You got to be on your desktop. I'm sure it could probably operate control premiere or final cut all those great things. And if I'm talking to you, if you had like, what is he talking about? They're editing softwares. So try it out. Just try it out in general. I mean, get on these things. But I will say this, if you're not, you're anti this and you're anti that, and you do certain work pertaining to the digital space, for instance, like web design or whatever you're doing, coding, you are going to be left in the dust. In fact, you're already left in the dust because this technology is moving faster and faster and faster. Just like the other day, I found this other web program, That prompts, it's AI, it builds websites. Check out the jeffadamshow.tv. That was built off of AI with a couple of promptings. It built the whole site. I fed it pictures, told it where everything was at. And within 25 minutes, I had a full functional website. Unbelievable. Based on the years of going through WordPress or Squarespace and trying to design and using their templates, I'm telling you, folks, it's a different world. And if you're not getting involved with these things, You're going to have some problems. I'm already intimidated. I'm always looking like, man, how can I up what I already do, what I bring to the table and utilize some of these things? It's so important. So check that out. Go check it out. It's worth it. All right. My last topic of tonight is YouTube. We all love it. You're watching this on YouTube right now or you're listening to streaming somewhere else. But the video portions on this is on YouTube or the clips are recycled and put on Meta. But YouTube, I love YouTube. There's a lot of things to love about YouTube. People that you find, the things that you're looking for to watch. It's a beautiful thing. But I'm a big vlogger connoisseur. I love watching people share their lives and documenting their journey. So I watch this one guy from time to time. Not all the time, but when I see him in the feed, I go, oh, that looks interesting. I'm going to watch him. He was one of Adam's friends. That's how I found out about him. But German and Venice, he's called GIV. And I noticed he hadn't posted in a while. I'm like, man, what happened to him? So anyways, he posted a video today. I was eating lunch and he was, he got a strike from YouTube and from a video that was done three years ago, which is crazy, but I'll get into that a little bit more. but he was just saying it's like there was nothing he could do. He was explaining about the video. It said there was some sign, some kind of nudity or something that happened, but it was some Oktoberfest and, you know, these ladies were on the spinning wheel and their dresses were coming up, but you couldn't see anything. But it was, they approved it three years ago, but they went back and flagged them just, you know, a week ago and blocked him for 10 days on YouTube. See, that is the crazy thing about YouTube. And, you know, GIV was basically saying, this is one of my highest performing videos that I had. It was like 3.5 million views and accumulating views. And you want to like say things, cause I love YouTube and I'm not trying to bash YouTube, but sometimes you think maybe just maybe they do things to mess with people just because they can. And yeah. They don't want to pay money anymore. I don't know. I'm just throwing that out there. I don't know. And here's the things that I was hearing his frustrations because you literally, YouTube can do this. They can change their terms and conditions every day if they want to. And if you don't read those things, you're still liable. So if you have a video that violates the terms and conditions and they change the rules, say tomorrow, and you did a video five years ago, you're going to go back and get flagged. Doesn't matter. That's just the way it is. I worked with a prominent YouTuber for a very short period of time. And I can tell you that, yes, it was a nightmare for him. And it was a court situation that they were trying to figure out, but they just blasted him off of stuff that he was saying. It was a political talk show. They were blasting him on television. you know, past stuff that he was saying. And it was like, and they eventually demonetized his account, tried to shut his account down. He kept his account, but you see what I'm saying? I don't know. It's scary because I see so many people putting all their eggs in this basket called YouTube, but there's not a whole lot of places out there that gives you a real shot, you know, outside of Rumble, but Rumble's, come on, you know, Rumble's this big political, poop fest. And I, no offense guys, Chris and everybody over there. I know those guys, but I just, I don't even go to rumble because it's just all the conservatives and political people ran over there when YouTube started blocking things, whatever, yada, yada, yada. You get the, you get the, you get the deal. Cause I'm not trying to make this political at all, but I've had accounts that I was running, got banned for certain things. So if you don't walked a straight and narrow but i from giv giv is pretty much you know he walks a straight and narrow he's a vlogger he's a daily vlogger and i was just thinking you don't you just don't know um when your day could come if you you put all your eggs in your basket that's one flag he gets two more flags his his account's gone forever so that's a scary thing that you could just be nonchalantly shooting something and then you know 10 years later a video 10 years ago gets flagged and it's something like, well, wait a minute, let me go back and they'll show you where it got flagged. But you go, I said that, but I could say something in this video could get flagged, you know, 10 years up. And I'm like, this video got flagged because I talked about this. So you never know. That's the scary thing about this platform. Now, granted, that's the dark stuff of this platform, but I just thought about it today because so many content creators upload millions and millions of videos, hoping that they can make extra income here. On YouTube. But if you're here because you want to make extra money, guess what, folks? Okay. You can make a few bucks here and there on this channel. I made a few bucks. Okay. Um, you can do it, but at the end of the day, if you're, if you're doing it for those reasons, you're probably not going to last. You've got to do this because you love to do it. You've got to do this because you're, for me, I feel like I'm called to do it. I was made to do this. You know, I did radio. I used to do live stream shows. I did podcasting shows. And it's just something that you love to do because I am what you call a megaphone. You know, I'm a megaphone. When I work for companies, I'm like the marketing guy or the builder, the visionary, and I have the megaphone. So this is just something that I do. So if you're wanting to get into YouTube because, ah, I'm going to blow this thing out. Granted, think about it. Think about it because you're going to be highly, highly frustrated. Um, and also with YouTube, I was thinking, but you know what? I'm going to save that thought for another video because I don't want to cram too much in one video. So, Hey, if you like what I'm doing and coming back, doing this show and having the spontaneous conversation with you, hit that subscribe button down below. Show me some love and hit those comments too, man. I got to hear for some people. And, you know, this feedback. And this is a different formula type of show. It's not favorable for the algorithm, but hey, you know what? I'm going to talk about what I want to talk about. I'm not going to chase trends, whatever is on my heart that day or whatever I experienced that I think could bring value to you. I'm going to do it. That's what I can guarantee you. Right, Pedro? Pedro, we run that type of show, Pedro, where we just, yeah, do whatever we want to do. Pedro just nods his head from time to time. Or he just says no all the time. I don't get it. I guess, you know, he's intimidated because the camera's on, but Pedro, we'll get you on camera one day. Until next time, we'll see you real soon, Lord willing, on the Jeff Adams Show. Pedro, take us out of here. When Jeff is buying, the prime ribs frying.
